The world is changing as it relates to work. I am sure you have noticed this over the past few years especially. Many more opportunities are available for work from home, or remote positions.
I used to think of these jobs as ones that you sat home licking envelopes, and maybe initially they were. But as the internet and all that it brings us has changed, more and more businesses are thinking outside the box and having their employees work from home.
Why?
Well, many options have become available to us now where our work can be stored on “the cloud”. Accounting software, file storage, and project management are all available online. Of course, communication like e-mail has been around for a long time and there is now virtually no reason a person must occupy a desk in an office to get work done.
Many forward-thinking companies have realized the cost-saving potential of having an employee work from the comfort of their own home. They no longer have to supply them an office, lunch space, a bathroom and the supplies that go along with that, a computer, hydro to heat or cool the space, and the list goes on. Many big corporations also realize the loyalty that comes along with employee satisfaction and overall happiness.
Although these businesses still have the responsibilities of the employee as it relates to taxes, deductions, vacation pay, and benefits, they are still benefitting overall from huge cost savings.
Since positions for remote employees have gained popularity, many more small business owners and entrepreneurs have begun to realize the amazing benefits of having a virtual assistant on hand to help them with certain tasks they either don’t like doing or don’t have time to do. As well, many businesses realize that there is not a need, in most cases, to have a full-time employee carry out the tasks they require.
Most often, the administrative needs of small business owners or entrepreneurs are closer to a few hours a month in terms of need and this is why a virtual assistant can often meet the needs of these business owners.
So, this has turned into a very symbiotic relationship. Employers benefit from cost savings as it relates to their remote employees and remote employees are generally happier as they have more freedom, comfort working in their own space, and more work-life balance often leading to much less time missed from work (which of course also, again benefits the employer) – a real win-win situation!
